The Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth promises to tickle audiences’ musical taste buds with its 2016-17 series of concerts, presented under the theme “A Fest for the Senses.”
CMSFW artist director and violinist Gary Levinson said in a news release announcing the next lineup that the seven performances in the ensemble’s 29th season, which includes appearances by four visiting string quartets, “will scintillate all five senses at every concert.”
Over its history, the CMSFW has been known for performances that united pianists with string players, with a particular emphasis on artists who have competed in the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. But the organization has been moving away from that pattern in recent seasons, and pianists will be heard at only the first two concerts of the 2016-17 season.
Instead, expect things to get “windy” at CMSFW concerts.

"Next year is the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth, and it’s a classical music organization whose work sometimes gets lost amid the hype of larger groups like the Van Cliburn Foundation and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. This week, their season continues at the Kimbell Art Museum’s Piano Pavilion, and artistic director Gary Levinson is excited."

"When you talk to Gary Levinson, he vibrates with positive energy. His packed schedule includes being the Senior Associate Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony while teaching a studio full of exceptional students and keeping up an international concert career. But when Board President John Forrester approached him about taking over the moribund Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth’s concert series, he happily accepted and managed to fit in the duties. The results have been astounding. Attendance went from so-so to sold out and the buzz is off the charts."

“Senior principal associate concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra since 2001, violinist Gary Levinson was born in St. Petersburg and educated at Juilliard, and he performed for 13 years with the New York Philharmonic. So when he took over as artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth in May 2013, we were curious to see which musical friends he’d entice to Fort Worth to perform.”
