Rosamunde String Quartet
The Rosamunde String Quartet features musicians from the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. Celebrated for its “uniformly rich sound from top to bottom” (Cleveland Classical), the quartet formed in 2015 as a passion project of its all-star members. The group will perform a work by George Walker, the first African American to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1996.

The Artists
Violin
Noah Bendix-Balgley
Noah Bendix-Balgley is first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic. He tours as a soloist with leading international orchestras and recitals in the finest concert halls around the world.
In addition to the Rosamunde Quartet, Mr. Bendix-Balgley performs with the
ensemble Philharmonix.The group has a multi-year residency with Vienna’s Konzerthaus
and has released three albums.
Born in Ashville, North Carolina, he began playing at age 4. He graduated from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and Munich Hochschule. A laureate of the 2009 Queen Elisabeth Competition, he won top prizes at the Long-Thibaud International Competition in France and the International Violin Competition at the Postacchini Festival in Italy.
Mr. Bendix-Balgley is also a gifted educator. He teaches at the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic and is on the faculty and advisory council of the Morningside Music Bridge program in Boston.

Violin
Shanshan Yao
Shanshan Yao enjoys a multifaceted career as a chamber musician, soloist, and orchestral player. She is a member of the Kammerakademie Potsdam and former violinist in the New York Philharmonic and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared as a guest musician with the Chicago Symphony and Berlin Philharmonic.
She premiered the Double Concerto for Violin and Viola, composed by Grammy-nominated composer Zhou Tian, with the Hangzhou Philharmonic in China.
Born in Huainan, China, she began playing violin at the age of 6 and enrolled in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music when she was 9. She continued her studies at Canada’s Mount Royal Conservatory. She received her bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and master’s from The Juilliard School.
She serves on the faculty and advisory council of the Morningside Music Bridge program in Boston.

Viola
Teng Li
Teng Li is an internationally celebrated soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist,
hailed for her “burnished sound and elegant command of phrasing” (The New York Times).
Since 2024, she has been principal viola for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Previously, she was principal viola of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
She is an ardent chamber musician with notable international engagements. Her probing interpretations of chamber works can be heard on several critically acclaimed albums, including her solo album 1939.
She graduated from the Central Conservatory in Beijing, China and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

Cello
Nathan Vickery
Lauded as a “formidable cello soloist” (The New York Times), Nathan Vickery has been a member of the New York Philharmonic since 2013, performing and touring with the orchestra in locally and throughout the world. He performs frequently on the New York Philharmonic’s
chamber music series and new music series.
He appears regularly in solo and chamber music recitals and music festivals around the country, including the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Marlboro Chamber Music Festival, and Music at Angel Fire, among others.
Mr. Vickery has served on the faculty of Morningside Music Bridge, the Indiana University Summer String Academy, Shanghai Orchestra Academy, and he teaches privately in New York City.
He received his bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and also studied at Indiana
University String Academy.
